Kонґрес Українців Канади (КУК) та Українська Стрілецька Громада Канади (УСГ) оголошують про урочисте вшанування канадців, які віддали своє життя, захищаючи Україну від триваючої агресії росії. Ці добровольці, які боролися за свободу далеко від дому, будуть нагороджені посмертно Українською Канадською Жертовною Медаллю — почестю, яка присуджується тим, хто загинув, був поранений або зник безвісти під час служби в Збройних Силах України.
Серед вшанованих – Бенджамін Асер, хоробрий молодий угорсько-єврейський воїн, чия втрата глибоко відчувається українсько-канадською громадою. Бенджамін загинув від удару дрона в Харківській області 24 травня 2025 року. Він загинув, допомагаючи іншому іноземному добровольцю, ігноруючи наказ про відступ на користь утримання позиції для продовження вогню у відповідь. Його поховали в Україні. Його мужність, переконання та почуття обов'язку продовжують надихати всіх, хто його знав.
Створена за рішенням XXVII Трирічного Конґресу Українців Канади у Вінніпезі в 2022 році, Медаль за самопожертву є символом відваги, відданості та спільної віри в те, що свобода повинна захищатися скрізь.

The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) and the Ukrainian War Veterans Association of Canada (UWVA) have announced a solemn and heartfelt tribute to Canadians who made the ultimate sacrifice while defending Ukraine against Russia’s ongoing war of aggression. These volunteers, who fought for freedom far from home, will be recognized with the Ukrainian Canadian Sacrifice Medal — an honour reserved for those killed, wounded, or missing in action while serving alongside Ukraine’s Armed Forces.
Among this year’s recipients is Benjamin Aser, a brave young Hungarian Jewish soldier whose loss is felt deeply within the Ukrainian Canadian community. Benjamin was killed by a drone in the Kharkiv region on May 24, 2025. He fell while helping another foreign volunteer, ignoring orders to retreat in favor of holding the position to continue returning fire. He was buried in Ukraine. His courage, conviction and sense of duty continue to inspire all who knew him.
Created by a resolution of the XXVII Triennial Congress of Ukrainian Canadians in Winnipeg in 2022, the Ukrainian Canadian Sacrifice Medal stands as a symbol of valor, commitment, and the shared belief that freedom anywhere must be defended everywhere. It recognizes Canadian citizens who gave their lives, were wounded, or remain missing while serving in Ukraine’s fight against Russia’s invasion.
Representatives of the UCC, UWVA and local Ukrainian communities will present the Sacrifice Medal to the family of the Fallen at commemorative ceremony on February 25th 7:00 аt 145 Evans Ave. in Etobicoke.
