Liberty Entertainment Group hosts Ukrainian Day public fundraiser

-- VIPs and government dignitaries join community to support #StandwithUkraine campaign efforts --

Liberty Entertainment Group is proud to announce Sunday, March 27th has been declared Ukrainian Day at Toronto’s fabled destination and venue, Casa Loma. Created as a day in support of the #StandwithUkraine fundraising efforts, the local community of all ages is invited to join federal, provincial, and municipal dignitaries, VIPs, and the Ukrainian Canadian Congress – Toronto Branch, for a day of cultural activities and performances, craft vendors, and information sessions for families of refugees with speaking remarks from special guests and dignitaries. All proceeds from admission will be donated to the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal (www.cufoundation.ca) established by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) and the Canada-Ukraine Foundation (CUF).

Doors open at 9:30 AM; last admission is 3:00 PM.

“This event is a coming together of the Italian Canadian and Ukrainian Canadian communities in support of the people of Ukraine,” said Nick Di Donato, president and CEO, Liberty Group. “We’re both proud and honoured to help with aid during their time of extreme need by hosting our fundraiser and encourage Torontonians to participate. We’re all deeply affected by this international humanitarian crisis, and we’re committed to assisting in whatever way we can.”

On Sunday, guests may visit the castle and its grounds, decorated to honour the nation and its people. Cultural elements include live folkloric music, local vendors selling Ukrainian crafts, merchandise, and a demonstration of the traditional Pysanka Easter eggs. An arts & crafts area will be set up by the UCC onsite for children. Live performances by the Kalyna Performing Arts Company will take place in the gardens’ glass pavilion at 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM; the television show, Festival Italiano will broadcast live from 12 – 2:00 PM. Dignitaries including the Honourable Marco Mendicino, MP Eglinton-Lawrence Ontario, Ontario’s Premier Doug Ford, Toronto’s Mayor John Tory and Peter Schturyn, president, Ukrainian Canadian Congress – Toronto will address guests on the glass pavilion mainstage at 12:30pm.

Visitors and patrons are encouraged to support the fundraising efforts by partaking in the day’s activities, showing their support for #StandwithUkraine, and donating directly at the UCC info booth onsite. To further assist families and loved ones affected by the war, Canada Worker Trades will host a job fair for work placement for newly arrived displaced persons, and information sessions will take place regarding immigration and the law.

The CUF/UCC Humanitarian Appeal has already delivered multiple tranches of aid to affected populations in all corners of Ukraine, including some of the hardest hit cities in the north, east and south of the country. Its support also extends to affected families who have made their way across the border into neighbouring countries such as Poland, Romania, and Moldova, as well as providing food for internally displaced families from across Ukraine who find themselves in Lviv and surrounding areas.
