Promoted by St. Volodymyr Institute
Event Description
FREE Virtual Event (in English)
In collaboration with the Kule Folklore Centre – Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies, University of Alberta Join us for this presentation based on fieldwork recordings and printed versions of Ukrainian-Canadian songs. Ukrainian emigrants from the eastern edges of the Habsburg Empire brought a vast repertoire of songs with them during the first wave of immigration to Canada (1891-1914).
We’ll dive into the Ukrainian-Canadian songs, look at their music, lyrics and vocal presentation, and see how they reflect the elements from both Ukrainian and Canadian culture. Olga Zaitseva-Herz is a Ph.D. student in Ethnomusicology in the Department of Music at the University of Alberta, and a research assistant at the Kule Folklore Centre.
